Employee Engagement — What does this term mean to you?

A quick search of this term will provide you with several definitions and definitions by experts.

  • Team Engagement
  • Employee Participation
  • Employee Experience

To me, as an HR (Human Resources) Professional, it is nothing less than a responsibility. My experience has taught me that human behaviour and expectations are far beyond your imagination. You can do so much, and yet there is so much to do. This book is about my experiences, which I cherish profoundly. Being connected with people and forming meaningful relationships at my workplace enabled me to cultivate strong connections and build trust and credibility.

Being genuinely interested and caring about people and their requirements is only possible when you can think and give unconditionally. This shall not only help you do your job better but also help you earn the respect that no titles or designations can provide. In your profession, you will be able to take care of yourselves well when you learn more, and hence “Take care and care more!”

Therefore, Dear HR Professionals, you need to tune in to the needs of modern workplaces and stay more connected. This book attempts to share experiences from Preeti’s desk, as the art of People Connect can be achieved only when you work beyond the defined scope.

Best wishes to you in your career journey, Happy Reading!

Preeti has worked in the field of Human Resources Management for over 20 years and has worked with multinational organisations in the HR Business Partnering function. This experience has taught her to remain strongly connected with the businesses she has supported, and she has demonstrated a high level of Result Orientation and Leadership capabilities in challenging business environments. Being an HR Business Partner, she has partnered with businesses in the Growth, Transformation, Maturity, and Re-invention phases.

She finds her strengths in HR policies, Employee Connect, Succession Planning, and Employee Development. She is keen to work with People Managers and help them build their teams. She finds interest in mentoring young professionals, travelling, and music. This book is intended to highlight that the changing business environment is compelling us to learn and change more swiftly

Preeti’s “People Connect’ is an engagement handbook for professionals in the field of people management. This book is a legitimate guide centered on employee engagement that can enable the company to march towards a safe and healthy environment.

I concur with the author’s opinion that employee emotional commitment should be considered the success mantra to fuel organizational success and productivity. Interestingly, Preeti illustrates the advancements/improvements in employee engagement from decade to decade.

I second the author’s assertion that not all employee engagements are directly proportional to monetary benefits. It is the duty of the organization/People Manager to rightly identify and apply individual emoluments, adhering to the employee’s request.

This book also talks in detail about the concepts of intrinsic motivation and hybridized generation conflate, where the HR professionals deep dive and run initiatives that can ignite engagements and in turn convert a consortium’s triumph. Not to miss the impact of Unfiltered surveys and opinion polls, which act as an aid for employee engagement.

Essential practices like team building, R&R, upskill measures, wellness programs, outbounds, CSR, etcetera the author presented in this book are something every organization personnel needs to adapt to keep their employee happy and satisfied, plus those can help to assess and be market-ready.

She also spoke about trust-building measures by leadership teams and cross-collaboration as key factors to the promenade and becoming a ‘Great Place To Work‘. Adhering to the concept of “TEAM“, I should thank the author who voiced out the necessity of a hybrid working culture in the era of generative AI and language modeling.

I was anticipating the examples or use cases of the author’s enumeration and applicability throughout her two decades of career. After all, readers look more at pragmatic appositeness than pedantic write-ups.

Full credit to Preeti Khanolkar for penning down a much-needed employment engagement handbook blended with tons of proven initiatives and effectual outcomes.

  • “Work on incremental changes, and you have won half the battle.”
  • Your work is your responsibility, not its result.
  • “Remain a lifelong learner, practice gratitude, and remain engaged.”
