My story’s raw, messy, and all mine! From Bangalore nights to naturist fights, I’ve bared it all in my first book, and maybe my last… for now. But don’t count me out! I might just sneak back with another memoir to rattle your world again. Dive into my naked truth and see where this bare ride takes you!
Book Description..!!
Naturism, at its heart, is about Freedom..!!!
Hello, you brave soul looking at this book, welcome to my world! I’m Pooja Gowda, a South Indian girl who stumbled into something wild, something bare, and somehow turned it into a life I never dreamed of. This isn’t fiction spun from thin air, but it’s me, peeled open, every bit true. From Madras summers to Bangalore nights, from convent rules to naked truths, it’s the story of a woman who found freedom in the last place she’d look: her skin.

I didn’t set out to write this for applause or shock. It’s more like a whisper, or maybe a shout, to anyone who’s ever felt trapped in their walls, wondering if there’s more. Naturism found me, not the other way round, and what started as a shy peek bloomed into a passion that freed my skin, and a thin line teasing apart my soul, blazing hot. It grew into something I couldn’t hide, even when I tried. This book isn’t about preaching or proving, it’s about sharing. A glimpse of what happens when you dare to shed what’s expected and see what’s left.
What is Naturism, aka Nudism?
Naturism, alias Nudism, is a lifestyle and philosophy emphasizing living in harmony with nature, often characterized by practicing social nudity in designated areas such as beaches, resorts, or private properties. It promotes body positivity, self-acceptance, and the belief that nudity is a natural and healthy state. People who practice naturism are often free from societal constraints, unfiltered living, and judgmental burdens.

What is taboo about being a Naturist, and what is the misconception behind this practice?
Though this style of living is a personal choice intertwined with empowerment & self-respect, as much of associated with stigma and a conservative mindset, in India, this practice is still considered to be taboo, social spurning, and a whispered concept. Often, the nudist practitioner’s choices are very questionable as an anti-legal facade.
What is Pooja Gowda‘s contribution to this movement?
Pooja Gowda, author of “The Great Indian Naturist,” broke the taboo to establish herself as a FREE and liberated person to be one of India’s greatest nudists. Exhibiting her courageous spirit, Pooja reformed the nudist outlook and stood tall in this movement, imbibing the society’s acceptance and guilt-free living. Indeed, Pooja is the torch bearer of the naturalist revolution in the Indian Subcontinent and strives to make India join nude-friendly destinations.

What is to look for in this book?
Indeed, it’s a bold move for me personally to pick this book and dive into the understanding of nudism and the associated conceptual perceptions. “The Great Indian Naturist” is more than a memoir of Pooja Gowda; this book is a journey timeline of understanding the stigma, snag, and hardships of her respective journey. Hailing from a conservative South Indian family, this culture of becoming a naturist is a practically preposterous errand.
Book furtherance..!!
Taking its birth in Germany somewhere in the 19th century, naturism has always been a proscribed jargon in Indian society. This book is a commotive ride of a Hindu-born baby girl from a conservative clan to become a wholesome person, breaking the taboos to become a country’s eminent naturist. From the author’s own words, the edifying journey isn’t a cakewalk; every chapter the author presents takes readers on a hand-held expedition into Pooja’s chronicle timelines. While the chapters keep you engaged, I felt emotional reading through the author’s shoes.
Is naturism a real taboo?
After a thorough read, personally, nudism isn’t taboo, but the societal insinuation pushed this sacred term into an unacceptable interdiction. While most of the ignorant cant differentiate naturism from sexism/porn, folks like Pooja Gowda deserve accolades for her magnanimous efforts to induce into the Indian ecosystems. The author’s narrative of her nudist spark discovery is very much engrossing to read, as the presentation is in sync with the emotional self-evolution.

Common Misconceptions…!!
Ever since I picked up this topic to explore, I have always had the myth of nudism, sombre the sexual craving, and often losing the fascination of intimacy, thanks to Pooja for taking enough pages to elucidate and break my delusion of nudists connecting with my partner’s sexual affinity. Her entire book resonates with the need for partners’ and well-wishers’ support to make things possible to chase our passions and to stand as a living inspiration and ground breaker for those we believe.
What’s so special in this book…!!
While public nudity isn’t a legal thing in India, the author’s efforts are commendable in establishing nudist initiatives, building bonds with like-minded people, amalgamated with historical and traditional references, is something that drew my mind. The author’s passion towards the path of ‘The Great Indian Naturist’ and bountiful hardships are fervently narrated. I got the feeling of emotional exchange of thoughts via physical presence throughout the read.
Conformistic Applaud…!!
I wish every individual deserves a good companion like Neha to Pooja, who transformed into a new person by inspiring and filling confidence. A good friend like Ajay, who always stood by the side of Pooja’s kith and kin in following her passion for naturism. A caring and supportive spouse like Kutta as their relationship is built on love, trust, mutual respect, and support, plus an unconditionally loving person like Mary, who is always by your side and like a second mother, a caring and helping group of like-minded ones, and adorable neighbours. Undoubtedly, this is the cherishable god-gifted achievement in everyone’s life.

My Takeaway..!!
Through this book, Pooja gave a clear differentiator of naturism vs exhibitionism, naturism vs nudity, naturist community vs LGBTQ+ community, and naturist vs obscenity. She also clarifies that nudism is more about cleansifying the thoughts of a pornographic mindset and avoiding the thoughts that creep into the mind that lead to sexual affinity towards the other gender.
She also draws naturalist references from the sculptures of ancient Indian Hindu temples to support her thought process. Special mention to the author’s modest tone both in her writings and in DM’s, for me, this is the proof of humbleness, which is also a secret ingredient of becoming what she is today.
Author Accolades..!!!
With so much to be done on the path that she chose, I sincerely wish and pray that Almighty supports her journey to become a globally recognized Indian naturist torch bearer. I also assure my contribution to promoting the book authored by Pooja to inspire and bring the naturists towards like-minded communities, plus to practice their right to be nudists. This book also unleashes the hidden nature in every reader.
Key Highlight(s)..!!
Don’t miss the chapter “Bare Heart Bares“, in this, Pooja tried to address and clarify tons of misconceptions around nudity and naturism, these are the most common questions people often shy out from and make their theories, and often miss the essence of passion. On a lighter note, I appreciate the author blending the flavour of a relatable south-Indian lifestyle (Bangalorean to be precise). Special apprise of authors’ brewing talent and obsession with tea, after all, tea and nud-ee-tee go hand in hand with Pooja’s lifestyle.
Conclusion..!!
The Great Indian Naturist is a life narrative of Pooja Gowda, a beautifully handcrafted memoir about the path she staunchly ushered, this is not just another timeline memoir, this is a journey of a south Indian girl who spilled her naked truth to her readers who stumble, soar and wrestled through the dark-days balancing the family demands and personal passion. Pooja never wanted to transform anyone to a nudism lifestyle through this writing, rather, this is a personal narrative to inspire those to ignite the hidden passion of personal nudity.
End Note..!!!
While the book spoke about Pooja’s passionate timeline, she also dedicated a few pages listing down the verified nudist destinations, like-minded groups, getaways, non-sexual retrial organization details, naturist event planners, nudist calendars, plus their respective social media links.
I am sure, after the successful completion of this book, readers will have a paradigm shift of affinity towards the nudist culture and those who practice it. Let the spark of inner nudism be fed to those who are still struggling to open up and show up to this world. Long live Pooja Gowda and her contributions towards making India’s mark in the world of naturism.
Quote(s)..!!
- Bare life’s no sin, it’s truth, fearful and wonderfully made.
- Naturism is about freedom, it is not sexual orientation.
- Nudity in naturism is about comfort and normalcy, not a sin of pent-up frustration.
- Miles to go before I sleep. Stay with me. Pray for me (Read again)
