Let me start by expressing my gratitude to be one of the prospective readers of the book that speaks on women’s monthly cycles, authored by Dr. Liz Murray, an award-winning doctor, artist, and women’s health advocate. With the motive of spreading reliable medical knowledge that every woman deserves, this book is an essential guide to comprehend the wisdom that humankind has defied discussing. Pouring Liz’s physical, professional, and emotional proficiency into addressing the elephant in the room, this erudite offering attempts to normalize the term ‘healthy period‘ and to make female readers realise periods as markers of Gynic wellbeing beyond the taboo of considering sanitary waste.

Book précis!!!

Dr. Liz corroborates the intentful impulse of deserved living with periods, rather than being dictated by them, through this treatise. She charts period-linked maladies and demystifies widely held misconceptions, thereby inundating diagnosis, assessment, and guided assistance. I personally recommend this book for all pubescent; rather, for all those gentlewoman who are ambitious to take their body under self-control. This isn’t just an perspicacity mentor for observing the body’s processes; this is an insightful, emboldening document of womenhood celebration.

This gynecological gyan brainstorms about aspects like period-related disorders like bleed, pain, and mood; along with concepts like primary/secondary dysmenorrhoea, fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis, oligomenorrhoea, hypomenorrhoea, menorrhagia, dysphoric disorder, ovarian insufficiency, polycystic ovary syndrome, premenstrual syndrome, and their respective mental, emotional, and physical implications. While I completely acknowledge readers malediction on me for using arduous medical nomenclature, this intricate diagnostic awareness is a must for clinical empowerment and to take command over gynecologic organs.

Dr. Liz devouted major chunk of this book to the understanding of Endometriosis, the chameleon of gynae health. The author, being a victim of advanced endometriosis, favours her book readers by spreading awareness, so that readers aren’t in the state of delulu. Along with this, she spends a few pages talking about Adenomyosis, a culprit that is capable of devastating a woman’s quality of life; PD or PM, PCO Syndrome, Ovarian Insufficiency, and menopause; a hormone-driven empowerment program to bid adieu to menstrual cycles. I acknowledge the efforts of proffering ample medical jargon in this book, as this debunks mythos which our previous generations offered in the name of arcane wisdom.

What made it more interesting while reading this book is that the author added her story appertaining to the presented conception; also, at the end of every chapter, the additive chapter summary and key takeaway are capable of stronger fathom; along with fast and fun facts will keep readers hooked throughout the entire read. The key highlight of this book is appropriate illustrations and Venn diagrams, it is rest assured for readers to duteously apprehend what Dr. Liz wishes to offer her readers through this paperback. Believe me, your voraciousness of knowing the deeper insights of gynecological cognizance is accomplished right here.

Liz emphasizes the need of listening to body for not just to regain control over life, but to unleash the ability to thrive beyond survival. This book is light at the end of the tunnel for those who wish to overcome health challenges and regain strength. I agree authors words to include this knowledge in the school curriculum; after all, this information fits as an aid along with mother’s experience and wisdom. My thoughts go to Dr. Liz for the adorable presentation from the viewpoint of an experienced doctor and a conscientious convalescent. She rightfully justified the role of authoring this much-needed female education.

I firmly ratify this book to be perused by male readers. Though this book speaks about the gynecological facets along with the remedies every woman undergoes, the perpetual study made me realise the need for warmth, empathy, solace, reassurance, compassion, and attunement, specifically during the menses days.

My favourite(s) in this book are ‘Five Markers of a Healthy Period‘; a holistic flow chart to pinpoint symptoms and conditions of menstrual concerns, under ‘Endometriosis Management’ the author tabulated a detailed study on female hormones(Oestrogen, progesterone, and so on) and how they’re delivered, and ‘Spoon Theory‘ illustrating the acknowledging and adapting the imposed body limitations.

The notion of finding joy over the painful periods and reclaiming identity beyond period dictatorship makes me term this book as one of my top 2026 reads. Written by a destined patient turned doctor to empower and liberate from painful periods for inviting dominant ownership on womenhood, anticipating the medical advancements of considering menstrual samples for identifying underlying diseases (read it again); after all, every woman’s right is to live with periods, not to be dictated by them.

  • Periods are markers of health, not the measure of worth…!!!
  • The pain is not proportionate to the disease activity
  • Transparency is a hallmark of a good clinic.
